STRANG ON THE PODIUM AT JOHN PENTON GNCC

FMF Makita Suzuki’s Josh Strang battled the inclement weather, the muddy track, and the rest of the competition in the XC1-Pro class aboard his RM-Z450 at Sunday’s John Penton GNCC, and came away with a second-place finish that extended his lead for the championship to a comfortable 20 points. “Josh got back on track today,” said team manager Mike Webb.

Torrential rains prior to the race left the track slick and dangerous, enough so that the race officials decided to delay the start by an hour to let the water drain. Once the rains let up, and the track had dried out some, the race got underway. Strang got off to a tough start, spending most of his first lap near the back of the pack, but he pushed on through the mud and charged ahead. Josh worked his way through the pack, moving into second by the second lap, and the lead on the third. Josh dropped back into second again on the fourth and final lap, but was never far behind the leader

Josh’s second-place finish earned him 25 points toward the championship. This, combined with the fact that his main competition for the lead DNF’d due to mechanical problems, means that Josh has now widened his lead to 20 points. With just five races left in the series, that 20-point cushion will give him a significant advantage in the race for the championship.

Strang has faced some tough challenges in this year’s GNCC series, and thanks to his hard-working team he has taken them all in stride. It’s no wonder that Josh has more race wins under his belt than any other rider this year!

The ninth round of the 2010 GNCC series will take place June 27th at the Snowshoe Mountain Resort in Snowshoe, West Virginia. The RiderDown foundation will be giving away Josh’s bike after the race. Fans who want a chance to take home Josh’s RM-Z can purchase raffle tickets at the event. More information can be found at  http://www.riderdown.org.
