MAKITA JOINS THOUSANDS OF RACE FANS IN POMONA FOR THE 2010 AUTO CLUB NHRA FINALS

Makita, a worldwide manufacturer of technologically advanced power tools that are more compact with less weight yet deliver industrial strength power and results, was fully engaged in NHRA Drag Racing this past weekend in Pomona, CA., along with thousands of race fans at the Auto Club NHRA Finals.

Makita’s Experience More Tour Truck, a 53-foot interactive tool display on wheels, was all set up at the Pomona Fairplex in Nitro Alley with over 150 tools on display and live tool demonstrations. The drag races brought in an estimated 125,000 people throughout the weekend of racing that included Top Fuel Dragsters, Funny Car, Pro Stock, and various Sportsman classes.

“The fans definitely turned-out, and the Makita truck was flooded all weekend,” said Joe Felts, Makita marketing specialist. “We were ready with interactive displays and hands-on tool demonstrations that clearly showed the Makita Advantage.”

Makita was also there in support of NHRA Pro Stock driver Dave Connolly, a twenty-two time NHRA Pro Stock event winner.  Connolly raced the Makita Industrial Power Tools Pro Stock Car at the Auto Club NHRA Finals in Pomona and was consistent all weekend during qualifying. He qualified easily on Saturday to set himself up for the finals on Sunday. Dave and his Makita Power Tools race car were strong all weekend but he drew some stiff competition on Sunday and was eliminated by the eventual winner of the event, Shane Gray.

Makita-Sponsored Teams in Racing and Action Sports
NHRA is the latest step in Makita’s accelerated presence in racing and action sports. Makita and Suzuki’s long term partnership has yielded over 20 championships in Supercross, Motocross, Superbike, ATV, and Amateur – including Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey’s historic 2010 championship run in Supercross and Motocross. Makita is also a sponsor of Rockstar Makita LeDuc Racing in short-course off-road racing, and Scheuring Speed Sports in snocross racing. In every case, Makita power tools – including 18V LXT Lithium-Ion cordless drills, impacts, and grinders – can be found in pits of top race teams.
