    If you live in California, the California Consumer Protection Act of 2019 ("CCPA") provides you with the following rights with respect to personal information that Makita U.S.A., Inc. ("Makita," "Us," or "We") has collected about you:

    • You have the right to request that Makita disclose to you the categories of personal information We have collected.
    • You have the right to request that Makita disclose to you the specific personal information We have collected about you.
    • You have the right to request that Makita disclose to you the categories of personal information that Makita shares with third-parties.
    • You have the right to request that Makita delete personal information it has collected about you.

    To Request Makita disclose to you the information in categories a through c (a "Request to Know") or to request Makita delete the personal information it has collected about you, email California law requires that We verify your identity before responding to a Request to Know or a Request to Delete. To verify your identity, We compare the information you provided on your request to the information We have in our system. We consider your identity to be verified if the information you provided to Us matches the name we have in our system and at least two of the following pieces of information: email address, physical address, or telephone number. Alternatively, if you have previously created an online account with Makita when registering your tool's warranty, We consider your identity to be verifiable if the username and password you provide to Us matches our records.

    California Consumers have the right to designate an authorized agent to make a Request to Know or a Request to Delete on their behalf. However, the process for designating an authorized agent for these purposes and the process by which Makita can verify your identity when a request is made on your behalf by a third person is still being developed by the California Attorney General at the time this Privacy Policy was last revised. Until the California Attorney General finalizes these procedures, we will not be able to honor a Request to Know or a Request to Delete unless it is submitted directly by a consumer.

    Further, California law prohibits Us from discriminating against any consumer who submits a Request to Know or a Request to Delete by, among other things, denying goods or services, charging different prices or rates for goods or services, providing a different level of quality of good or services, or suggesting that the consumer will receive a different price or rate for goods or services or a different level or quality of goods or services.

  • Categories of Personal Information Collected in the Past Twelve Months and the Sources From Which Personal Information is Obtained.

    During the past twelve months, We have collected the following categories of personal information about California consumers:

    • Name;
    • Address;
    • Telephone number;
    • Email address;
    • Professional or employment-related information, limited to the specific trade(s) in which our customers are employed and the name of their employer;
    • Customers’ preferred language;
    • Customers’ birth year;
    • The username and password provided to Us by consumers who create online accounts with Us; and
    • The specific product(s) purchased by consumers and the location at which the product(s) was/were purchased.

    With one exception (explained in the following paragraph), all the above information is provided directly to Makita by consumers in the course of: (i) completing paper or online voluntary product warranty registration forms; (ii) voluntarily enrollment to receive Makita's email newsletter; (iii) voluntarily entering into promotional contests/sweepstakes sponsored by Makita; and (iv) contacting Makita's customer assistance department, either via telephone or through an online submission.

    The one exception is that, within the past twelve months, We purchased a list of arborists to whom we marketed a new line of outdoor power equipment products.

  • Sale of Personal Information.

    Makita does not sell consumers’ personal information.

  • Disclosure of Personal Information to Third Parties.

    Within the past twelve months, Makita has disclosed the following categories of personal information to third parties which co-sponsor promotional contests/sweepstakes with Makita:

    • Name;
    • Address;
    • Telephone number;
    • Email address;
    • Professional or employment-related information, limited to the specific trade(s) in which contest/sweepstakes entrants are employed; and
    • The preferred language of each contest/sweepstakes entrant.
