ROCKSTAR MAKITA SUZUKI'S RYAN DUNGEY CAPTURES 2010 SUPERCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP

Dungey, a rookie, clinches in Seattle with two races remaining in season

APRIL 26, 2010 – La Mirada, CA – Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey became only the second rider to win a supercross championship in his rookie season, clinching the 2010 Supercross Championship Saturday night before 51,442 fans at Qwest Field in Seattle.  The 2010 Supercross title is the latest in a growing list of championships by Makita and Suzuki sponsored athletes; the partnership has yielded over 20 championships in supercross, motocross, ATV, superbike, and more since 2005.

Dungey’s fourth place finish Saturday’s race set an insurmountable points lead with two races remaining in the season, securing the 2010 Supercross Championship.

“It’s been an amazing season to sit here after 15 rounds and be the champion,” Dungey said after the race.  “It was a lot of hard work and effort put in by everybody on the Rockstar Makita Suzuki team.”

“Ryan Dungey has had the look of a champion since the first time we saw him ride,” said Brent Withey, Makita senior brand manager.  “When you combine Ryan’s talent and drive – not to mention his awesome speed in the corners – with the entire Rockstar Makita Suzuki Team working together, great things happen.”

Dungey, 20, is only the second rookie to win a supercross championship since Jeremy McGrath won it in 1993.  Supercross heads to Salt Lake City next week before the final race of the year at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas on May 8.
