Rockstar Makita Suzuki's Ryan Dungey already has the title in the bag, but he is a fierce competitor and is looking for his 10th win of his rookie 450 Motocross season. Dungey has won 17 motos out of 22 so far this year and is focused on adding to that tally at the season finale, which kicks off with Moto 1 at 1 p.m. PST tomorrow @ Pala Raceway in Pala, CA.
"I'm going to go out there and race," Dungey said on Thursday as he prepared for the weekend's battle. "I'm really looking forward to it, and it should be a good one."
Dungey made headlines this year when he won the AMA Supercross title, only the second rookie ever to do so and also the youngest at age 20. All eyes were on Ryan at the season opener of the Outdoor series at Hangtown, but with all his attention on clinching the Supercross trophy, he had less development time to prepare for the National series and finished eighth overall. He and his Rockstar Makita Suzuki crew set out immediately to step up their game for the rest of the Motocross season, and they did just that. By the next round at Texas' Freestone MX track, Dungey was on a mission to prove that he and his team were champions. Ryan won Freestone and then just kept on winning. He went on to take nine overall victories in a row and clinched the AMA Pro Motocross title at Round 10 of the 12-event circuit, making him one of the most prolific and successful rookies ever in the history of motocross.
Tomorrow's race at Pala will be the first time a National event will be held at the track. Expect warm weather, clear skies, and a podium finish from Rockstar Makita Suzuki's Ryan Dungey.
