Makita is highlighting cordless tools and equipment that can replace corded and gas-powered products, including the 80V max XGT 14" Power Cutter.
January 17, 2022, Las Vegas, NV – Makita® U.S.A., Inc., the innovation leader in power tools accessories, went live today at World of Concrete in Las Vegas with an expansive and interactive booth in the Silver Lot outdoor exhibit area.
For 49 years the annual World of Concrete show has drawn concrete and masonry professionals. This week Makita is showing contractors how they can replace more tools powered by cords and gasoline with battery-powered solutions that combine commercial performance with lower noise, less vibration, improved dust extraction, and no hassles with cords or gas.
Several Tons of Concrete, Rebar Towers, Formwork, and More
The Makita booth will offer hands-on demonstrations with several tons of concrete forms, rebar towers, formwork, and the very latest cordless solutions for contractors.
“World of Concrete is our favorite show on the calendar,” said Wayne Hart, senior communications manager, Makita U.S.A., Inc. “For three days pro users can run the tools and see for themselves that Makita cordless tools and equipment combine commercial performance with the convenience of cordless.”
The Makita booth offers WOC attendees the opportunity to experience more solutions for nearly every stage in concrete construction. Below is a summary of Makita highlights at WOC 2023.
NEW 40V max XGT® 18” Chain Saws
Consistent with the focus on cordless solutions to replace gas, Makita is demonstrating three new 40V max XGT Chain Saws with performance that’s comparable to a 42cc gas saw. The three new models include two saws with 18-inch bars (GCU04 with locking bar nuts, and GCU6 with tool-less chain adjustment) and a 16” model (GCU05). Each is equipped with an efficient brushless motor for long run time (model GCU04 will make up to 40 cuts in 12” diameter cedar on a single charge, 40V max XGT 4.0Ah battery). All three have lower noise, less maintenance, and zero emissions compared to gas saws, and absolutely no pull start hassles. AVAILABLE NOW
NEW 40V max XGT® AVT® Rotary Hammer with Dust Extractor (GRH08M1W)
This cordless rotary hammer combines performance with low vibration and efficient dust extraction. The efficient brushless motor delivers up to 135 of 3/8" holes on a single charge (40V XGT® 4.0Ah battery), and it’s equipped with Anti-Vibration Technology for lower vibration with no compromise in performance. The kit includes an OSHA Table 1 compliant on-board HEPA Dust Extractor that makes this rotary hammer ideal for jobs that require maximum mobility, like working on a scissor lift. AVAILABLE NOW
NEW 40V max XGT® Concrete Vibrators
(5-1/2’, GRV01; 8’, GRV02)
Two new cordless concrete vibrators deliver performance and run time for use away from a power source. The new vibrators include an 8’ (GRV02) and a 5-1/2’ (GRV01) model, and both deliver up to 15,500 vibrations per minute (VPM) to help increase the strength of concrete. Both have two power settings, and both will deliver up to 60 minutes of run time in normal mode on a single charge of a 40V max XGT 8.0Ah battery. AVAILABLE NOW
NEW 40V max XGT® 4-1/2”/5” X-LOCK Angle Grinder (GAG11)
The new X-LOCK Angle Grinder combines performance and convenience. The efficient brushless motor has up to 60% faster cutting speed than the previous Makita model in the category (Makita model XAG04), and includes a variable speed control dial to set the speed to the application. The X-LOCK Quick Change System allows for tool-free wheel changes that’s up to five-times faster than traditional threaded lock-nut mounting.
AVAILABLE NOW
NEW 18V LXT® Deep Capacity Rebar Tying Tool (XRT02)
Rebar tying tools are a breakthrough in efficiency and productivity, and Makita offers a deep capacity rebar tying tool with the capacity to tie up to #8 x #7 rebar. It delivers up to 4,000 ties of #4 x #4 rebar on a single charge of an 18V LXT 5.0Ah battery.
AVAILABLE NOW
Additional points of focus include XGT and LXT cordless solutions for concrete demolition, drilling and surfacing, as well as rebar tying and cutting, formwork, measurement, and fastening. Makita will also feature premium accessories for drilling and cutting. Top solutions at World of Concrete 2023 will include the following:
80V max (40V max X2) XGT® 14” Power Cutter (GEC01)
The new 14-inch power cutter is a battery-powered solution and an alternative to gas-powered models so there’s lower noise, less maintenance, zero emissions and no pull cord hassles. The GEC01 has a full 5” of cutting capacity, with cutting power that’s comparable to a 75.6cc gas model* (*Makita EK7651H)
40V max XGT® 8.0Ah Battery (BL4080F)
This highest-capacity XGT battery supports the XGT commitment to create cordless options to equipment traditionally powered by cords, gas or compressed air. It is ideal for XGT equipment-grade product like the 14” Power Cutter (GEC01).
80V max (40V max X2) XGT® 28 lb. AVT Demo Hammer (GMH02)
XGT is taking cordless into spaces dominated by cords and gas, and here's one more example: The XGT 28 lb. AVT Demolition Hammer (GMH02) is powered by two 40V max batteries and an 80V brushless motor for a full 27.5 Joules of impact energy – more than a comparable corded model. It’s equipped with Anti-Vibration Technology (AVT) for significantly less vibration with no compromise in performance. Contractors now have a new cordless option for chipping, breaking, scraping, and even digging with a spade bit.
40V max XGT® 10-1/4” Rear Handle Circular Saw (GSR02)
Formwork often takes contractors away from traditional power sources, and Makita is offering more cordless solutions for this phase of construction. The GSR02 has a 10-1/4” blade and a full 3-3/4” cutting capacity – it will cut a 4x in a single pass. The efficient brushless motor delivers up to 150 cuts in 4x SPF lumber on a single charge of an XGT 40V max battery.
40V max XGT® 7-1/4” Rear Handle Circular Saw (GSR01)
Makita broke new ground in 2017 with the world’s first cordless 7-1/4” rear handle circular saw – and Makita is extending this leadership with the 40V max XGT model GSR01. It has a 7-1/4” blade, a full 2-9/16” cutting capacity, and will cut 3x material in a single pass.
Premium Accessories: 3-Cutter SDS-PLUS Bits
Makita’s premium line of carbide bits include 3-cutter bits for efficient drilling in reinforced and un-reinforced concrete. They are engineered for faster drilling, rounder holes, and more efficient material removal than commonly-used 4-cutter bits.
Premium Accessories: Rebar Cutting SDS-PLUS Bits
Drilling through rebar is a time-consuming task, and Makita rebar cutting bits feature an alternating cutter teeth design for faster drilling. The reliable drilling/cutting performance allows contractors to cut through rebar in concrete instead of re-locating the hole: a big time saver.
Premium Diamond Blades: Makita’s expanded range of premium diamond blades feature a new bond formulation and increased segment heights (from 7mm to 13mm) for faster cuts and longer performance life. The new premium diamond blades will be in use at hands-on demonstrations in related applications throughout the Makita booth.
The World of Concrete show opened at the Las Vegas Convention Center on Tuesday morning, January 17, and runs through Thursday, January 19. For more information on Makita at World of Concrete:
