Pro Tool Reviews recently rounded up seven 12" Compound Miter Saws, and dropped them off at a Florida jobsite to let a contractor try them out. The Makita 12" Compound Miter Saw (model LS1221) earned high marks for its portability and compact size, as well as the direct-drive power and overall ease-of-use. And it recieved special distinction as the only miter saw in the field assembled in the USA (the LS1221, along with many other Makita power tools, is assembled at the Makita Corporation in Buford, GA). Power, Portability, and Lasting Accuracy
The Makita LS1221 is powered by a 15 AMP direct drive (not belt drive) motor, and delivers 4,000 RPM for the most demanding applications. The 1-piece base is subjected to a precision grinding process and is engineered to ensure flatness for long-lasting accuracy, cut after cut. It's built with contractors in mind: at only 37 lbs. it's easier to transport to and from the jobsite. For more on the LS1221, go here.
Florida contractor Thomas Gaige put the Makita LS1221 to work during a recent deck building project on two 1920's bungalows.
