Rockstar Makita Suzuki\'s Tommy Hayden finished on the podium in the first of this weekend\'s races at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Tommy worked his way up to a podium position after struggling for the first few laps. "I expected to be up near the front battling for the lead, but it just didn’t work out today," said Hayden. "We\'ll be back here tomorrow to try again."
After taking the preliminary pole on Friday, and qualifying second on the grid, Hayden got off to a rocky start in race one. After struggling through the first few laps, Tommy began a rally that would put him on the podium. With each lap, he managed to gain precious time on the third-place rider before making the pass for the position. Tommy quickly poured on the speed to make up some ground, but there weren\'t enough laps left in the race to catch the leaders. Tommy\'s third-place finish places him well within striking distance of the current points leader.
Looking ahead to Sunday\'s race, the team will make some changes to Tommy\'s bike to better suit the Mid-Ohio circuit, and Tommy is confident that those changes will make a difference in his results. "We\'re going to come back tomorrow after we make some adjustments and hopefully do better," said Hayden.
With Tommy and his GSX-R1000 tuned up with Makita tools to perfection for Sunday\'s race, look for them to be running at the front of the pack!
