MAKITA SNOW CROSS TEAM RAISES THE BAR FOR TEAM AND SERIES

Robbie Malinoski broke a string of two consecutive fourth place finishes Saturday night in Utah to earn the team’s first pro podium of the season with a third, while also solidifying third place in the Pro Open standings.

Just days before he was set to travel to Utah, Malinoski suffered a separated AC joint in his right shoulder, while riding at the team’s test facility. Initially, it was unknown if Robbie would even be able to compete in the Western nationals.

After taking part in morning practice, things took a turn for the worse when Malinoski was involved in two separate on track collisions, resulting in him dismounting the sled and placing even more strain on the shoulder. After qualifying for the Pro Stock main, the determined rider from Humbolt, Saskatchewan was only going to make a single lap and collect starting points. Once the green flag fell, he continued on and settled in to a pace that saw him work his way to a ninth place finish.

In the Pro Open main, Malinoski bolted from the second row into a fourth place spot. Continuing the charge, he moved into a podium position with just a few laps remaining and was able to comfortably gap the field behind him. Robbie finished up a gritty night and turned around what was otherwise a very tough weekend.

Team rider Andrew Johnstad managed to score a couple of top fives in qualifying action with a second and a fifth. Johnstad was near the top 10 mark in both finals, with a 10th in Stock and 11th in Open.

Semi-Pro rider Joe Fallen continues to be consistently in the mix in his classes. Fallen won a qualifying round and finished he weekend with a sixth and eighth overall in Super Stock 1 and 2.

Next event: January 22-23, Canterbury Park, Shakopee, MN.
