Tool users who unplug the cord with Makita 18V LXT® experience new levels of convenience, efficiency and productivity. Makita created the 18V Lithium-Ion cordless tool category in 2005, and today it is the world’s largest 18V cordless tool line-up. Makita’s leading technology gives tool users unmatched performance and breadth of line, with innovation in motor and battery technology that is obliterating industry standards – and leaving old thinking behind. With high amp-hour batteries, efficient brushed and brushless motors, and 36V (18V X2) LXT® technology, Makita 18V LXT® tools not only meet corded demands, they can exceed the performance of corded, all while remaining in a single cordless platform powered by the industry's fastest-charging 18V lithium-ion batteries. Makita cordless tools are engineered for industrial applications, and for added protection during the most demanding jobs Makita created STAR Protection Computer Controls™. STAR is communications technology that monitors conditions during use, allowing the tool and battery to exchange data to protect against overloading, overdischarging and overheating. If STAR detects conditions that threaten to overload, overdischarge or overheat the tool or battery, the tool will automatically stop. At that time the user can either restart the tool, change or charge the battery, and put the tool back to work. When you slide a Makita 18V LXT® battery with the STAR symbol onto a Makita tool that has either the STAR symbol or a yellow terminal, you are benefitting from STAR Protection Computer Controls™.
Automatic Speed Change™ is technology that adjusts speed and torque for optimal performance, even in the most demanding applications. During operation, if the tool is put under heavy load, Automatically Speed Change™ detects the added demand and applies more torque and speed to finish the job. Makita cordless tools with Automatic Speed Change™ are engineered to deliver corded performance, without the cord.
When the job takes your Makita tool into harsh conditions, Makita Extreme Protection Technology (XPT™) provides added protection. XPT™ is a series of integrated seals engineered to channel away dust and water for increased durability. Wherever the job takes you, Makita tools equipped with XPT™ are engineered for increased durability and longer tool life.
Makita, a pioneer in brushless motor technology and battery innovation, combines both in the 36V (18V X2) LXT® Brushless 7/16” Right Angle Drill. It's powered by two 18V LXT® batteries (sold separately) for maximum performance and has an electronically controlled Brushless motor that matches torque and RPM to the changing demands of the application.
Makita 18V X2 means freedom from the cord, and the XAD04 will take on the most demanding applications like drilling up to 6-1/4" holes with hole saws and 4-5/8" holes with self-feed bits. Best of all, users can remain in one battery platform, using the same fast-charging 18V LXT® batteries with the XAD04 as they use across the expansive Makita LXT® cordless system.
The XAD04 has a long list of features for drilling with superior speed and efficiency. The Makita Brushless Motor combined with X2 LXT® technology delivers with a variable 2-speed design (0-350 RPM and 0-1,400 RPM) for optimum speed control and drilling versatility.
Under load, the Automatic Speed Change™ technology adjusts drill speed and torque during drilling for optimum performance. Added features include an electric brake for maximum productivity and a built-in clutch that reduces gear damage by disengaging gears if the bit binds (low speed only). It’s powered by two 18V LXT batteries for maximum power, speed, and run time without the hassles of a cord. The XAD04 can drill up to 160 2-9/16" holes per charge in 2x SPF using two 5.0Ah batteries and a self-feed bit (self-feed bit sold separately).
Convenience features include a built-in L.E.D. light that illuminates the work, a built-in tether notch (tether sold separately), and a tool-less 7/16" hex sleeve for convenient bit removal and installation. The XAD04 also features an ergonomically designed handle with a rubberized soft grip that provides increased comfort on the job with a side handle for better bracing and control. It is both compact and ergonomic measuring 21-1/4" long and weighing only 13.1 lbs. (with batteries) for reduced operator fatigue.
It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18V Lithium-Ion system, the world’s largest cordless tool system powered by 18V Lithium-Ion slide-style batteries. Makita 18V Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger.
For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls™. Star Protection is a communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging, and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18V LXT® and Compact Lithium-Ion batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside.
