About
The 40V max XGT® Brushless 1-1/8" AVT® Rotary Hammer (GRH07Z, tool only) is a cordless concrete solution engineered for heavy-load applications. It delivers the power, speed, and run-time for corded demands, and features a convenient D-handle design that is ideal for overhead, downward or hard-to-reach horizontal drilling/chipping applications.
The Makita-built brushless motor delivers a full 2.7 ft. lbs. of impact energy, with 0-980 RPM and 0-5,000 BPM. Constant speed control automatically applies additional power under load for optimum performance.
It’s equipped with Active Feedback-Sensing Technology (AFT®), which electronically turns off the motor if rotation of bit is suddenly forced to stop, and Anti-Vibration Technology (AVT®) for reduced vibration. More than just a padded handle, AVT is an internal counterbalance that uses air pressure to move counterweight pistons in the opposite direction of the drive piston to actively reduce vibration. In addition, the vibration-absorbing back handle and side handle further reduce vibration. For added durability in harsh job site conditions, Extreme Protection Technology (XPT™) is engineered for improved dust and water resistance.
The rotary hammer has dust extraction capability with an OSHA Table 1 compliant on-board HEPA dust extractor attachment (model DX15, sold separately). Users many also use a standalone dust extractor with Auto-Start Wireless System (AWS®). AWS uses Bluetooth® technology for wireless power-on and power-off communication between the equipped tool and dust extractor. Once connected via AWS, the AWS-equipped dust extractor will automatically power on or off when the AWS-equipped cordless tool starts or stops, running only when the tool is in use. This increases productivity on a single charge and reduces continuous noise at the job or work site.
The torque limiting clutch is engineered to prevent gear damage by automatically disengaging the gears if the bit binds, and constant speed control automatically adds power to the motor to maintain speed under load to complete the most demanding jobs. Additional performance features include an electric brake, variable speed dial, built-in L.E.D. light, and a tethering loop/hanging hook to help secure the tool when working at heights or on a lift.
It is ideal for a range of trades including mechanical/electrical/plumbing contractors, concrete contractors, road and bridge contractors, utility workers, pest control, maintenance operations, and more. It accepts SDS-PLUS bits.
XGT is a system of equipment, tools, batteries and chargers utilizing 40v max lithium-ion batteries. XGT is engineered to deliver high power to take on high-demand applications, allowing users to completely transition to a cordless job site. XGT is equipped with advanced brushless motor engineering, intelligent digital communication, and superior durability features to outpower, outsmart and outlast the rest.

XGT® is a new 40V | 80V max system of cordless equipment and tools. XGT outpowers, outsmarts, and outlasts the rest. Through Makita’s innovative engineering, the technology within XGT will lead to creating the equipment and tools of the future [Learn More]
Makita takes another step toward a truly cordless job site with Auto-Start Wireless System. AWS® uses Bluetooth® technology for wireless power-on and power-off communication between the equipped tool and dust extractor. AWS® is intelligent communication that eliminates cords and excessive noise since the dust extractor runs only when trigger-activated by an AWS® tool. When the trigger is released, the dust extractor powers-down. The Makita AWS® dust extractor (XCV08Z) is powered by two 18V LXT® batteries for maximum performance, and users benefit with an expanding AWS® system that includes cordless tools for concrete, metal and woodworking.
When the job takes your Makita tool into harsh conditions, Makita Extreme Protection Technology (XPT™) provides added protection. XPT™ is a series of integrated seals engineered to channel away dust and water for increased durability. Wherever the job takes you, Makita tools equipped with XPT™ are engineered for increased durability and longer tool life.
Advanced AVT® enhances Makita Anti-Vibration Technology (AVT®) with a 3-component system that sets new standards in vibration reduction, with no compromise in performance. The Air Actuated Counterbalance moves counterweight pistons in the opposite direction of the drive piston to actively reduce vibration. The Vibration Absorbing Housing isolates the rear and side handle, reducing vibration for the user. And the Integrated Damper Spring is engineered to absorb impact vibrations from the drill bit. [Learn More]
Anti-Vibration Technology (AVT®) is a counterbalance system inside the tool that significantly reduces vibration. The AVT® counterbalance design is based on seismic engineering, which developed this damping science to absorb shocks and protect buildings from earthquakes. AVT® uses a mechanical damper, effectively a counterbalance weight inside the tool, that provides an equal and opposite force that puts a mass directly opposite the point where the striker bolt delivers the impact. As vibration is eliminated, power is efficiently increased which allows more of the generated energy in the motor to be delivered to the tool bit. Makita also has an AVT® counterbalance system in select recipro saws. For users, AVT® means significantly less vibration with no compromise in power and performance. [Learn More]
