October 27, 2006 – La Mirada, Calif. – Makita USA, Inc., manufacturer of high-quality professional quality power tools and accessories, has announced the launch of its new 7” and 9” Electronic Angle Grinders, models GA7040S (7”) and GA9040S (9”). Both grinders have Makita-built industrial 15 AMP motors to handle the toughest applications, as well as “Soft-Start” technology for smooth, controlled start-ups. In addition, a torque limiter disengages the motor if the grinding wheel binds, and protects the lock nut from over-tightening in start ups and in heavy duty operations. These best-in-class features distinguish the GA7040S and GA9040S grinders as top trade solutions for a range of pro-level tasks.

Both grinders feature a Makita-built industrial 15 AMP industrial motor with a 2,600W continuous rating input. To protect the motor from debris, the grinders are built with a labyrinth construction that seals the motor and bearings by creating a complex set of channels, extending the life of the grinder. In addition, the motor is sealed by a protective zig-zag varnish which prevents contamination by creating a barrier under rotation. The grinder has rugged all-metal housing for increased durability and added protection. And the wheel guard features a “tool-less” clamping system that allows for easy adjustment for grinding or cutting.

In addition to durability and performance, Makita engineered comfort and ergonomics into both grinders for professional use all day long. The vibration-absorbing side handle can be quickly installed on both sides of the tool as well as the top for operator convenience. The large rubber tool rest on the top of the metal housing protects work piece from scratches. The low vibration rear handle has a soft grip for more comfort and control, and rotates with three lock-stops. This allows the user to position the handle for the most demanding applications, including cutting, paint and rust removal, heavy machinery, metal polishing, general steel grinding, cutting brick/masonry, and more. Both tools are great for welders, stone finishers, masons, fabricators, electricians, HVAC, and more.
